How To Choose The Right Fishing Boat by Mr. Hat

Do you love to go fishing? Is it one of the most enjoyable ways you like to spend your time? If so, then you need the right fishing boat to help you get the most out of your fishing experiences. There are a lot of different types of fishing boats available that offer you different features depending on the type of fishing that you enjoy. Therefore, the first decisions in how to choose the right fishing boat will be what type of fishing you plan on doing. For an example of why this is important, consider that a bass boat would not work well for walleye fishing because it is not equipped to handle deep water and big waves.

You need to decide what type of angler you are as well. In other words, do you plan on using the boat purely for fishing only or would you like to go for a spin across the water occasionally. Perhaps maybe even throw in a few skiing trips once in awhile. If you only want the boat for fishing then buy one designed especially for this. If you like other water activities then look for a boat with multiply features. Many of the newer designs such as the “sportfish” model are designed for excellent fishing and lots of other activities as well.

The type of fishing you plan on taking part in also goes hand in hand with the area in which you plan on fishing. For instance, will you be fishing in fresh water, salt water or both? If fishing in saltwater do you plan on going deep sea fishing or staying near the waters edge? These are important questions that will help you choose the right boat for your fishing needs.

Another area to consider is whether or not you will only be fishing during the day or if you enjoy fishing during the night as well. If you do night fishing then you need to choose a boat that can provide you with some protection and more comfort than some fishing boats have. Consider how many people will be accompanying you in your fishing boat. This is a big factor in choosing the right fishing boat. You will need something that is big enough for everyone to fit comfortably and have enough room to maneuver the fishing rods with ease.

You even have to decide if you prefer a fiberglass boat or an aluminum fishing boat. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages depending on the type of fishing you plan on doing. The bottom line is, before you go out to look for that perfect fishing boat, take time to consideration the things mentioned above and it will help you in deciding which one would be the best boat to fulfill your needs.

Jigging is a type of fishing strategy wherein the angler uses a jig to catch fishes. There are several models of fishing rods in the industry that are perfect for butterfly jigging. Among these are Shimano Trevala and other models of fishing rods from Shimano. When jigging the lure for the fishes moves with vertical jerky or zigzag motions through the seas instead of the usual horizontal bobbing of most bait or lures. The jig or lure of jigging rods, such as the Shimano Trevala Jigging Rods, is crafted from lead sinker. This is the reason why a butterfly jig is sometimes called “leadhead.” Shimano Trevala jigs, as with other jigging rods, have one molded hook at the end to trap fishes. This hook is covered or hidden with a soft body that has a bright color, in order to attract or lure the fishes. Shimano Trevala jigs can be used for both freshwater and saltwater fishing.

The Parts of a Shimano Trevala Jig:

Shimano Trevala jigs come with different parts. These are the following:

 Head - this part is available in several different shapes and colors. It may be conical, shaped like a fish, or round. On the other hand, its weight ranges from 0.8 lb to almost 1 lb., depending on the fish species that you want to lure. The heads of Shimano rods for jigging may also have weed guards to shield the jig when the waters are murky.

 Body - Shimano Trevala rods have jig bodies that are shaped like frogs, grubs, fishes, lizards, insects, or paddle tails. This part is usually made from silicone or rubber. Their color varies from transparent brown to bright blue or yellow, together with red or silver flakes. Some jig bodies of Shimano Trevala jigging rods can be designed with dyed tail hair from whitetail deer, feathers, hairs, Chenille, and other types of natural materials.

Shimano Rods Are Perfect for Jigging

Shimano is a well-known maker of rigs for jigging. As a matter of fact, the system of butterfly jigging was created by Shimano during the 90s. Among the famous Shimano rods that are great for fish jigging are the Shimano Trevala series and the Shimano Torsa rod series. However, the most common option for professional jigging is the Trevala series. The Shimano Trevala rods are made from high modulus TC4 graphite. This material makes the jigging rods lightweight but with high durability and sensitivity. The Trevala jigging rods feature real seats and alconite guides with the Fuji trademark. Due to the high quality of the jigging rods of Shimano, it is considered as a top maker of equipments for butterfly jigging.

Aside from the Shimano Trevala series, the maker also has other rods that are perfect for jigging. These are the Shimano Torsa series, which are equipped with 9 bearings and 5.8:1 gear ratio. Its line capacity is 450 yards of 16-pound line for fishing. Other than the Shimano jigging rods, the market has several available rod brands. You can check out your options by visiting Sea Isle Tackle, which is an online dealer of fishing equipments.

Striped Bass or stripers are good eating and fun to fish for too! Some of the best places to troll for them happen to be in protected waters. If you have a hankering for stripers, there’s plenty of charter boats that will let you catch your fill.

When trolling for striped bass, you want to make sure you use the right equipment. If you charter a boat, you should be supplied with all that you need. Striped bass like to hang out near the bottom - below the bait so wire line is used to get the lures down to their level. It’s important to prevent line wear to the guides on your rod so make sure you use one that has guides of carboloy, aluminum oxide or silicon carbide.

As with most fishing, your success depends on matching the lure to whatever the fish are eating. Your charter guide should know exactly what to use for that. Striped bass are known to eat a large variety including eels, squid, silversides, crab, soft clams, lobsters, sea worms and other fish such as flounder smelt and silver hake.

Your best bet at catching striped bass is to go out after dawn or around dusk, but in the middle of summer, these fish like to feed at night.

If you don’t want the expense of renting a charter to troll for striped bass, you can always fish from shore. Again the same rules apply - make sure you present them with something that resembles what they are currently feeding on. A 10 foot surf rod is typical and you should make sure to use at least 30 pound test line. If you are using live bait, make sure to use a float to keep the bait away from crabs on the bottom.

Trolling for stripers can be a fun activity for the whole family. A little bit more gently than fishing for big game fish, it might not be as exciting for many fisherman, but a good trip to bring the wife and kids on.

Once you have your bass, you can prepare them by baking, broiling or grilling. You can even have striper stuffed steaks if you can get them thick enough. To bake, lightly flour the fish and bake at 400 degrees until white and flaky.

The Internet is a very good source of information on where to find the best boat manufacturers and builders. It can also give you information to clue you in on the latest boat features, and even compare prices and specs online. This convenience makes you open to a wide array of choices when looking for a boat.

Choosing your boat

Your boat should depend on what type of fishing you want to do. If you want a stout tackle, huge fish, and an open sea, then you will require a boat that can brave any conditions like an offshore saltwater boat. If you plan to go shallow fishing to target the tropical flats, then you will need a small, light vessel or an inshore saltwater boat to get the best experience. If you need something fast and low on the water, then you need to choose a bass fishing boat. If you prefer to go fishing in lakes, then a freshwater boat is what you are looking for.

Using the web

Whatever your specifications are, you will be able to find the right manufacturer for you in the area that you specify through the Internet. There are even sites that are dedicated especially to fishermen to help them in navigating their way through the web. These sites offer a boat manufacturer search engine and lists where manufacturers are categorized according to boats they specialize in.
When searching for a bass fishing reel, the first thing to do is to make sure that reel feels like it isn’t the right size. If a reel feels large and bulky in your hand then it is too big. Most reels come in smaller sizes, and still have the same gear ratio. Having a reel that fits your hand size helps with casting and is much more comfortable.

The gear ratio in a bass fishing reel tells how fast the retrieve is; the higher the gear ratio, the faster the retrieve. A high gear ratio allows you to reel fish in fast without putting a lot of stress on your wrist. Gear ratios are shown by a ratio of two numbers, for example 6:1 means that the spool will spin 6 times for each full turn of the reel. An average rod has a ratio of 5:1 to 6:1. As gear ratios increase in bass fishing reels there is a small decrease in power.

The most common types of bass fishing reels are bait casting reels, spinning or fixed spool reels, and spin casting reels. Spinning reels are used for light lures that would not be easily cast by a bait casting reel. They have the problem of line twisting, so it is important to reposition the bail to keep line twisting to a minimum. Bait casting reels have been in use for hundreds of years, and require heavy lures to send out the line because they really on the momentum of the lure to drag the line out. Spin casting reels are often used by beginners, because of their ease of use and line twisting is very rare. They can use lighter lures than bait casting reels and line snaring is less likely to happen.
Left bass fishing reels mean that the crank is on the left side of the rod. These are most common on bait casting reels and have slowly been gaining popularity over the years. Like normal bait casting reels, they require heavy lures.

Author: Daniel Eggertsen

When you talk about sea bass fishing the first thing that comes to mind is usually the fact that sea bass are the largest species of saltwater fish found in the world. Fishermen have been catching sea bass all through history and it continues to be a popular sport today. There are several different types of sea bass that include the following: Black Sea Bass, White Sea Bass, Baquetta and Grouper. Sea bass are known for their firm, white flesh that makes a delicious meal. However, the fact that they are a great food source is not the only thing that makes anglers seek after the sea bass so diligently, there are several other reasons as well.

For example, anglers everywhere enjoy the challenge they encounter when fishing for sea bass. This is because this species can really put up a big fight that makes it exciting and fun. When sea bass are feeding they will gather together in large groups. This makes it possible to catch a lot of bass at any given time, which is another reason why sea bass fishing is so popular. The tournaments and competitions draw in a lot of anglers as well because there are some wonderful prizes and lots of money to be won in these contests.

You can find sea bass located throughout the Gulf Coast, Pacific Ocean and Atlantic Ocean. If you have always wanted to try your hand at sea bass fishing but do not have you own fishing boat, don’t let that stop you. There are many charter boats available that will take you out to some of the best known spots on the water.

How to Catch Sea Bass

When fishing for sea bass the bait and lures you use are very important. One of the most effective bait to use is natural baits such as mullet, sardines, mackerel, menhaden, eels and croakers. It is important that you have a way to keep your live bait cool and fresh for the best results. If using live bait is not an option for you, then the best lures to use for catching these fish are jigs, spoons, crankbaits and plugs

When fishing in dark, murky water crankbaits is the best choice because many of these make noise that can draw the bass in your direction. These also work great in grassy areas where it is hard for the bass to see the bait as they will chase after the sound. Spinnerbait is a good choice for grassy areas as well and is also the best choice for fishing around Lilly pads, piers, docks an

The joys and relaxation of a bass fishing trip, these times can really change your life. Read how in this article!

by Robert Gravener

We know you’ve seen it out there, the bass fisher who wanted their sport to take over the world with headlines like: “bass fishing trip saves marriage” or “bass fishing saves kittens”. Until recently however, there was no real cause to believe it was really true. As it would turn out, though, a bass fishing trip could save your marriage and bass fishing certainly saves kittens as well because if you’re out there fishing, the kittens are safe!

Call me crazy, but a bass fishing trip really can make a huge difference in the lives of people. There is nothing like floating out on the water, relaxing and fishing to altimately give you a life altering experience that changes perspectives and ideas of millions every year. It has been said, “once you go bass, you never go back”. There is something very revealing about letting that cool water breeze just drift on by and you take in the fresh air, the peace of everything around you is suddenly shattered by the screams of that bass on the fishing line. Ahh, yes there is nothing like it!

Your excitement builds as that peace fades away, and rightfully so. You are here for action, and there is no greater action in the world than the battle and the struggle between a man and the great fish on his fishing line. Not having this struggle, a bass fishing trip would be meaningless and frankly, life would be meaningless to many of us. For many, taking a fishing trip is not just another weekend away; it is a rite of passage and a religious experience.

Freedom

The feeling of freedom one can get from being out on the water with just a pole and a line separating you from man’s greatest wonder, well besides women, the bass fish. This is such an overwhelming experience and many an angler has vowed to never leave the lake and never leave behind the sport that keeps the fire in their blood from burning out. There have been many a songs written that proves for so many of us that being on that lake is the most important thing in our lives.Separating an angler from his lake is like separating a mother from her child: painful, unnecessary, and a great deal of trouble.

Finding peace is a goal for many and many an angler has found peace the likes of which we may never find in our own lives. There are so many people who take trips to Mexico or Florida or other exotic destinations to get away from it all, but those places are useless to an angler without the water to sink that boat into and catch that bass. The finest hotels are nothing in comparison to a tent in the woods for the fishermen. We have a lot to learn about bass fishing and life from the story of the angler and taking a great bass fishing trip is a good start.

Many people who are just starting out in the sport of bass fishing sometimes find it difficult to determine when the best time to catch bass really is. Or - even if these rookies know the best times to fish - it can be tough to decide which method to use to actually catch the bass once they’ve started fishing. The good news is that bass fishing has become such a prolific sport that there’s no shortage of advice to help get you through those troubling start-up times.

Bass, like most creatures, will usually stop biting during the hottest times of the day. So during the summer months when the sun’s especially brutal, your best bet is to wait and enjoy the relative calm and cool of night fishing. Bass fishing at night is best when you’re sure that the water won’t drop below sixty degrees. Night fishing is a pretty much a sure bet if you’re fishing during the months of July and August. If you’re fishing in the southern states, you could potentially fish at night for the majority of the year as temperatures may only be below eighty degrees for three or four months during the hardest portion of the winter.

If you’re going to fish at night, you shouldn’t have to change your habits too much. Simply go out to deep water and look for the large rock formations and crevices on the bottom that provide shelter for the bass to hide out in. This will increase your chances of catching a good-sized bass. Of course, you’ll need to remember that in the dog days of summer when temperatures are in the 100 degrees plus range, it’ll be difficult to catch bass at any depth above twenty feet, even at night.

Another technique to use when you’re night fishing is to use a heavier type of bait or lure. There are several reasons to do this. One is that you’ll probably need to get as deep into the water as possible to attract the best fish and a heavier tackle will allow you to do this. The other is to use a heavy tackle on the line to help you feel when you’re close to snagging a fish since it will be far more difficult for you to see anything at night. This sensation of feeling your catch and using that as a means of guiding you through your night-time fishing expedition is a great way to get even more in touch with your overall fishing experience.

Since you’ll be going out at night, it’s best to take as little equipment as possible so that you don’t clog up your boat with unnecessary clutter that will only get tangled up in the end. However, don’t skimp out on the safety equipment you’ll need at night. Some people who fish at night use black lights to help them see the nylon line - which glows under the black light - and to keep their equipment in check. If you plan to fish at night alone, you’ll also want to have basic first aid equipment and a cell phone in case of emergencies.

Become a Bass Fishing Professional. Get started here with pointers to trick the fish.

by Chris Douglas

Relaxing and fishing are synonymous with each other; one is the same as the other. This is a fantastic time for everyone. The best sport in the world for me, is bass fishing, no doubt about it.

Bass fishing is so exciting and a terrific way to relax. Keep your thinking caps on while bass fishing and also just hang loose while the fish size you up.

This is a sport that can have a lot of contradictions; if you are just getting started in bass fishing, you will find that you take to it right away or you don’t want to have anything to do with it. You just love it or you hate it.

As you are getting your feet wet, learning about bass fishing; you will soon find out that there is a lot more to bass fishing than meets the eye. It is a fact, that for the sheer excitement of fishing, you can’t outdo the feeling of having a largemouth bass grab the bait and run with it.

Now that we have gotten that out of the way; you will want to put some thought into what segment of bass fishing that you would like to be involved with: fishing for largemouth, smallmouth, or striped bass. There’s no hard and fast rule that you have to choose one type of fish to go after, but the majority of fishermen know what they like and stick to it.

There are so many ways to enjoy bass fishing that as a bass fisherman, you can have a multitude of choices of the way you would like to participate in the sport like fly fishing, or stream fishing, or fishing from a boat.

Most anglers are very vocal when it comes to bass fishing from a boat; it is the method of choice for the majority of them. It’s hard when you are just starting out in bass fishing, to know if you would be a good fisherman from a boat; but the best way to find out would be to get hooked up with a like minded group of bass fishing people and go out fishing with them.

Starting out in bass fishing can be intimidating for some, so just join up with a party of fishermen and learn all you can about it. Learn from and with others is one of the smartest things you can do when you are breaking into bass fishing, and this can be done by starting out with a bass fishing party who can take you under their wing and get you started.
